Visitor Policy & Timings
Visiting matters to recovery. So does rest, and so does infection control — this is how we balance the three.
General ward
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM & 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
ICU
One attendant, briefly, at the times the nursing station announces each day.
Overnight attendant
One attendant may stay with the patient in the ward, all night.
The rules, and why they exist
How many people at a time
Two visitors per patient in the ward, and only one in intensive care. This is not about crowding for its own sake — a patient who is recovering from surgery cannot rest with six people in the room, and the nursing staff need to reach the bed.
Children
Children under twelve are not allowed on the wards. They pick up infections easily and pass them on just as easily, and a hospital ward is not a safe place for them to wait.
Intensive care
ICU visiting is short and at fixed times, announced at the nursing station each day. Only one attendant enters, gowned. The consultant speaks to the family once a day — ask the nursing station when, rather than waiting outside all afternoon.
Infection control
- Use the hand rub at the ward entrance, on the way in and on the way out.
- Do not visit if you have a fever, a cough or a stomach upset. Call instead.
- Do not sit on the patient bed.
- Flowers and outside food are not allowed on the wards.
COVID-19 and infection prevention
In the building
- Keep phones on silent, and take calls in the corridor.
- Do not photograph or film other patients, staff or the wards.
- Smoking, alcohol and tobacco are not permitted anywhere on the campus.
- Please treat the nursing and support staff with courtesy. Abuse of staff is not tolerated.
