COVID-19 & Infection Prevention

Simple habits that protect you, your family and every patient on the wards.

Stay Safe

Protecting yourself and other patients

COVID-19 is now treated like the other respiratory infections a hospital sees every day. The habits that protect against it — clean hands, a mask when you are unwell, and staying away from patients when you are sick — protect every patient on the wards.

Wear a mask when you are unwell

If you have a cough, cold or fever, wear a mask inside the hospital. Please wear one in the ICU and when visiting a patient whose immunity is low.

Clean your hands

Use the hand rub at the ward entrance on the way in and on the way out, and before and after touching a patient.

Tell the counter about a fever

Mention fever, cough or breathlessness when you register at the OPD so the staff can guide you and keep other patients safe.

Fewer visitors, and none who are ill

Keep to the visiting hours and the visitor limit. If you are unwell yourself, call the ward instead of visiting.

Keep vaccines up to date

COVID-19, influenza and pneumonia vaccines matter most for people over 60, pregnant women, and anyone with diabetes or heart, kidney or lung disease. Ask your doctor which you need.

Recovering at home

Rest, drink plenty of fluids and keep away from elderly and vulnerable family members while you have symptoms. Take medicines only as your doctor advises.

Come to Emergency straight away if you have

  • Difficulty breathing or breathlessness at rest
  • Oxygen level (SpO2) below 94%
  • Pain or pressure in the chest
  • Confusion, or difficulty staying awake
  • Bluish lips or face
  • High fever that does not come down after three days
